Pilar Ortiz Calderón, PhD in Chemistry, is a Professor at Pablo de Olavide University in Seville and Director of the Master’s in Diagnosis of the State of Conservation of Historical Heritage. She has carried out research stays at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom and the University of Antwerp in Belgium, at the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development in Frascati, Rome, in Italy, at the National Centre for Restoration and Conservation in Havana, Cuba, and at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice in Italy. She is a member of the Andalusian Historical Heritage Council and of the Steering Committee of the Heritage Campus of International Excellence, representing UPO, and Head of the Andalusian Regional Government research group PAI-TEP 199 Heritage, Technology and Environment. The research lines she leads are based on studies of risks and vulnerability in historical heritage, preventive conservation, non-destructive techniques, and new technologies applied to the diagnosis of materials of historical and artistic interest. She co-directs the Sanit-Arte services, dedicated to the diagnosis of historical heritage, and Ambu-lab, a mobile laboratory for research in heritage, environment and agriculture. In 2021, she received the EUROPA NOSTRA award for research in historical heritage conservation.
